There are many reasons to invest in an Airbnb, short-term rental investment. One of the unique benefits is that the owners have access to use the property and also generate rents. In a resort market, like my market on the Emerald Coast of Florida, investors generate rents to cover their costs to own their place by the beach.
There are many flavors of rentable Airbnb opportunities, and some opportunities require more down payment and working capital than others.
Lenders will require 10-25% downpayment for a second home, and prices have appreciated substantially in many Airbnb hotspots over the past few years. In this video I discuss a few straightforward strategies to lower the amount of cash needed to purchase your next investment property. It's possible to not put any money down, but be cautious on overextending, especially if the cash doesn't cover 100%.
