From Barber to Financial Freedom with Dennis Balonze

In 2001, Dennis bought a well-established, 80-year-old barbershop in Montclair, NJ, which eventually turned into multiple locations, and heightened his enthusiasm and appreciation for real estate investing.

With the realization that his hair-cutting skills would eventually depreciate (while sound investments would continue to appreciate), Dennis borrowed a lesson from his parents—that hard work and investing money in something of value, that paid dividends, was the way to achieve financial freedom.

In 2010, Dennis was still operating on his own (albeit with the blessing of his incredibly supportive wife, Eda) and bought a row of six newly developed homes, also located in Alabama.

Dennis then started buying investment homes in Fort Benning, Georgia. he also began working with real estate investment firms (Borland Capital in Michigan, for one), finding, underwriting, and presenting investment deals for their acquisition teams, which greatly expanded his real estate investment knowledge and portfolio.

After 20 successful years of running his barbershop, he decided to start selling off his locations, one by one, to invest more time in real estate matters, and in particular, get into syndication and investing in larger properties.

Dennis’s first joint venture involved the acquisition of a fully occupied apartment complex in New Jersey with a private investor who wanted to invest in real estate, but didn’t want to be involved with finding or managing properties.

Currently, Dennis is successfully managing a portfolio of profitable multi-family and commercial properties in three states and is looking to broaden this portfolio, which would include the continuing acquisition and management of multi-family units and commercial buildings, with regional expansion throughout the southern United States.
