I love investing in residential real estate - especially when I don't have to do anything.

Unclogging toilets and getting midnight phone calls that the furnace is broken doesn't sound like my idea of fun.

That's why, instead of putting up tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars for a physical property I have to manage, I'm building my passive income real estate empire one day at a time.

I do this via residential Real Estate Investment Trusts, or REITs.

REITs pay really nice dividends (sometimes every single month) and can be bought on the stock market in small pieces - even for as little as $1.

Personally, I only target residential REITs - and preferably ones that are undervalued.

Now recently I took a look at all the residential REITs that trade on the major American stock exchanges and tried to determine exactly which ones I think were offering a discount.

And according to my calculations, these 5 residential REITs offered the biggest discount from their share price. So let's get to the list!
